Spinal cord injuries can be devastating for Chicago commuters

Spinal cord injuries can be devastating for Chicago commuters

On behalf of Roger D. Rudich, Ltd. | Jan 21, 2020 | Auto Accident Injuries

Chicago, like most metros it’s size, has a wide variety of ways to commute. In many cases, people who work in the metro find other ways to get to work that don’t involve driving a car. In recent years, the Windy City has been consistently rated as one of the most walk and bike-friendly cities in America.

However, commuter diversity can come with a cost. While traffic deaths in Chicago declined in 2019, there are still many residents and visitors who get hurt due to the negligence of other drivers.

Depending on the severity of the injury, pedestrians can endure both physical and emotional damages from getting hit by a car. One of the most common injuries they can face include damage to the neck or spine, which are not always immediately evident. In some cases, spinal injury victims may not be able to move the part of their body that got damaged. If that’s the case, medical professionals may determine the injury to be “complete.”

If that’s the case, the victim’s immobility can negatively impact multiple areas of their life. That’s because they may suffer from lost wages and severe physical pain. However, it’s best to catch injury warning signs early to prevent further damage.

Symptoms of severe neck or back injury

Those who experience any of these signs immediately or shortly after a car crash injury will want to get medical attention right away:

  • Complete loss of movement.
  • Limited or no ability to feel certain sensations including hot, cold or touch.
  • Severe pain or stinging sensations caused by nerve damage.
  • Extreme difficulty with breathing, coughing or clearing substance from the lungs.

Injury victims deserve proper compensation

Pedestrians can face long-term hardship if they get hit by a vehicle. Luckily, they have options available for getting the compensation they deserve. An experienced and diligent personal injury attorney can assist in evaluating the claim and answering any questions their clients may have.
